Jollibee in the States

It’s been a long time since I munched on a “Chickenjoy” drumstick and actually had the chance to do so earlier this month while vacationing in San Francisco with my husband. I wasn’t really planning on visiting any Filipino restaurant but accidentally saw a Jollibee resto while heading to Yerba Buena Gardens and Zeum Museum on Fourth Street.
Jollibee is a famous fast-food restaurant chain in the Philippines serving burgers, noodle dishes, and chicken, among others. I remember spending many of my free times at a Jollibee when I was younger. Even though McDonald’s was growing in popularity in the 1980’s in the Philippines, I still gravitated toward Jollibee.
So when I saw a Jollibee fast-food resto, I got excited. The place, albeit very small, made me nostalgic. The food, however, did not evoke good memories. The “Chickenjoy” was okay. My husband ordered “Palabok Fiesta” and he said it tasted horrible. The fries were run-of-the-mill. Regrettably, the food ruined my childhood memories of Jollibee.
Is the quality of Jollibee products not the same here as back in the Philippines? Or have my tastebuds gotten used to American processed foods? I don’t know. I will have to munch on a “Chickenjoy” and have myself a plate of “Palabok Fiesta” when I get a chance to visit the Philippines . I have to find out if my fond Jollibee memories can be restored. I hope I don’t get disappointed.
